Best pastries I've ever had after trying so many French places that I've lost count. Coffee was delicious too. I can't wait to try the crepes and gelato. I regret that I have but one stomach to sample all of the great things here.
EXCELLENTVerified Stopped in for dessert after dinner about a block away and the shop was relatively empty for a Sunday evening. Extensive menu, quick service and the most delicious looking desserts you could find! We ordered a panna cotta to dine in on, and then gelato to go. The panna cotta was my absolute favorite: well balanced and not too sweet. It was a vanilla cake with I think Nutella which was so good! We did pick up gelato to go, and the raspberry fell a little short to our expectations but I think that's personal opinion more than anything. We saw some interesting places, and I saw the gelato sign. Many gelato places will also have espresso. This place, however, has a wonderful variety of goodies. They do crêpes, they have all sorts of little chocolates and some other pastries, but I ordered gelato. They had a really nice variety of flavors and I appreciate that It didn't have that artificial color enhanced look. I decided to have a single scoop of a mango and it was delicious. Now I'm not an expert so I couldn't tell you how authentic it is, but I will tell you it was yummy. I had the mango gelato and was such a nice balance of mango and creamy without being overly sweet I debated on getting an affagato however, I wanted to avoid the caffeine however I think this place probably makes a very nice one Some of my party had a latte and they really enjoyed it The girl who waited on us was very helpful and made us feel incredibly welcome. The scent of gelato and freshly made pastries fills the air which makes you want to say "yaaaaas" FOOD/DRINKS: Honey Lavender (Recommend) Smoooth. A lite floral feel that's subtle, elegant and soothing. Hazelnut Cremino (Recommend) You got to love that chocolate hazelnut taste. Creamy and sweet. I think the hazelnut and lavender gave it a good balance. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Friendly and quick service. Brian was great! TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Good flavors, selections, all at a reasonable price. Figaro Dessert Café brings creative, high-quality desserts to San Diego. The gelato stood out for flavor, texture, and presentation. If you're in the mood for something special (and dessert-focused) in North Park, this place is a strong call. I'll definitely be back to try more of their flavor lineup. They def have a lot of GF options on the baked goods and Vegan sorbet options on the gelato side! The people usually working are really friendly. The only thing is last Sunday I went and ordered 2 coffees and 2 slices of cakes. I waited 25 minutes and as others came they got their coffee and slices except us. I was sitting in front of the girl who took my order and I guess it didn't register it had been a while since I haven't gotten my order. I spoke to the other employee to check up on our order and she printed our receipt to put up and didn't say sorry that they forgot to put it. The girl who took my order was like oh you haven't gotten your stuff?. I was really more upset on the lack of accountability. I get mistakes happen but also I was sitting in front of her where she can see me and it wasn't that busy.
